Modeling Prime Factorization with Bijections between Natural Numbers, Finite Sequences and Multisets
نویسنده
چکیده
We describe mechanisms to emulate properties of prime numbers by connecting them to computationally simpler representations involving bijections from natural numbers to sequences and multisets of natural numbers. Through a generic framework, implemented as a Haskell type class, we model interesting properties of canonical representation of factorization and its simpler equivalents, like information lost through factorization, a connection to Catalan families and similarity of behavior of the corresponding concepts of smooth numbers and the Ω and ω functions.

On Factorization as Bijection to Finite Sequences
We describe mechanisms to emulate multiplicative properties of prime numbers by connecting them to computationally simpler representations involving bijections from natural numbers to sequences and multisets of natural numbers. Through a generic framework, we model interesting properties of a canonical representation of factorization and its simpler equivalents. Among their shared properties, w...
متن کاملEmulating Primality with Multiset Representations of Natural Numbers
Factorization results in multisets of primes and this mapping can be turned into a bijection between multisets of natural numbers and natural numbers. At the same time, simpler and more efficient bijections exist that share some interesting properties with the bijection derived from factorization. This paper describes mechanisms to emulate properties of prime numbers through isomorphisms connec...
متن کاملTree-based Arithmetic and Compressed Representations of Giant Numbers
Can we do arithmetic in a completely different way, with a radically different data structure? Could this approach provide practical benefits, like operations on giant numbers while having an average performance similar to traditional bitstring representations? While answering these questions positively, our tree based representation described in this paper comes with a few extra benefits: it c...
متن کاملA New Bijection between Natural Numbers and Rooted Trees∗
A bijection is defined recursively between the set of natural numbers and the set of finite rooted trees. It is based on the prime decomposition of a natural number and the rank of a prime. This bijection leads naturally to a canonical presentation of rooted trees. For trees in each of two classes, bounds are given for the number of nodes in terms of the number assigned to the tree.
متن کاملSubmajorization and the Geometry of Unordered Collections
In this paper, we use submajorization to compare distances between either multisets of real numbers or multisets modulo translation on the real line. We provide a geometrical interpretation in which multisets are represented by points in an orbifold and bijections between multisets are represented by paths between these points. This interpretation shows that submajorization is closely related t...
